    CHALLENGE

    The operating problem

Most spaces are designed for a single function. A meeting room hosts meetings. A presentation space hosts presentations. Brindleyplace was specified to do all of it.

Brindleyplace is an established Birmingham commercial district with blue-chip occupiers across financial services, legal and enterprise. The client took a blank commercial space there in 2025 and needed one environment that could carry live events, broadcast content, executive meetings and daily collaboration without being reconfigured between them.

That is not a meeting room. It is a destination environment, and it only works if every function runs on a single infrastructure layer.

    APPROACH

    How Altus delivered

The build ran in three stages.

    • Site preparation: infrastructure, containment and mounting positions established before anything visible was installed
    • Installation: power and data integration, the mounting framework for the video wall, AV system deployment and control system integration
    • Commissioning: the space brought into operation as a fully functional media environment

The video wall is the centre of it, specified for broadcast-level performance and used for live presentations, town halls and briefings, broadcast and media events, and real-time content distribution.

The space went on to host the Birmingham City Council 2026 election hustings as a live broadcast environment, which is a fair test of whether a room built for several purposes holds up in the most demanding one.

    OUTCOME

    What changed

A blank commercial space became a live operational environment.

    • One space serving live events, broadcast, executive meetings and daily collaboration, with no reconfiguration between uses
    • Broadcast-level performance proven in live use rather than in testing
    • A single infrastructure layer supporting every function, rather than a separate system per use case
    • Collaboration zones that flex between team working and idea sharing as the day requires

The shift here is from static meeting space to an environment that adapts in real time. It is the clearest demonstration in the programme of what a multi-use workplace is actually for.

Canary Wharf, London | UK | Multi-Site | Workplace Technology, Workplace Automation, Connectivity & Cyber

    CHALLENGE

    The operating problem

The client took on a blank commercial floor at Canary Wharf and needed it to do considerably more than house desks.

The brief covered collaboration, media production, private working and wellness, delivered as one coordinated environment rather than four separate ones. It also had to meet the standard Canary Wharf tenants expect, where the quality of the fit-out is read as a statement about the business.

The difficulty in a brief like this is integration. Individually, each element is straightforward. Making them share one infrastructure layer, one control approach and one visual language is where these projects usually come apart.

    APPROACH

    How Altus delivered

We delivered the floor as a single connected environment built on one infrastructure layer.

    • Full structured cabling and a network backbone supporting AV over IP, with centralised rack infrastructure for resilient, scalable distribution
    • High-bandwidth connectivity for real-time content, video and collaboration
    • Meeting rooms with one-touch join, wireless presentation, multi-device sharing, integrated displays and room booking
    • Digital signage throughout, carrying internal communications and live content workflows
    • Enclosed pods for focused work, private calls and virtual meetings, with acoustic isolation, integrated power and data, and ventilation
    • Wellness pods positioned near natural light, for reset and decompression during the working day
    • A reception matching the Canary Wharf standard, with a clean architectural finish and integrated digital welcome signage

The pods are worth drawing out. Designing for deep work and for wellbeing alongside the infrastructure is uncommon in a standard fit-out, and it gives the floor privacy and concentration capacity inside an open plan without adding meeting rooms.

    OUTCOME

    What changed

A blank commercial space now operates as a high-performance workplace, combining collaboration, content creation, privacy and wellness on a single infrastructure layer.

    • Senior calls, sensitive discussions and concentration-heavy work are handled in the pods, freeing meeting rooms for actual meetings
    • Productivity gained without gaining footprint
    • A technology-led first interaction for visitors, consistent with the standard of the building
    • One infrastructure layer supporting every function on the floor, rather than a separate system per use case

The floor is a working example of what the workplace transformation model produces when collaboration, media, privacy and wellness are designed together rather than bolted on in sequence.

    Glasgow | UK | Multi-Site | Workplace Technology, Connectivity & Cyber

    CHALLENGE

    The operating problem

The Glasgow site is a multi-floor commercial building within the client’s national programme, and the brief went further than at the other locations.

The space had to communicate, not simply function. That meant large-format display in the principal rooms, information carried to every floor, and live broadcast distributed around the building, all on infrastructure that could take it.

    • LED video wall technology in the principal spaces
    • Distributed digital signage across more than forty screens
    • Structured cabling capable of supporting the whole distribution load
    • Professional aerial and signal distribution for live television

    APPROACH

    How Altus delivered

We delivered the building as one distribution system rather than a set of independent screens.

    • A large-format LED wall with coordinated panels and no visible bezels, supporting presentations, video conferencing and live feeds
    • A building-wide signage network across reception, corridors, shared spaces, meeting zones and breakout areas, used for internal communications, branding, live data and media distribution
    • AV over IP distribution on a low-latency, high-bandwidth backbone, professionally terminated and labelled so it stays maintainable
    • Aerial and signal distribution carrying live broadcast and television to multiple screens and zones at consistent quality

The cabling was specified for what the building will need later, not only for the screen count on day one.

    OUTCOME

    What changed

The building now performs at scale.

    • More than forty screens under coordinated control across every floor
    • Live broadcast and television distributed to any zone at consistent quality
    • A boardroom capable of presentation, video conference and live feed on one display surface
    • A labelled, documented cabling infrastructure that supports expansion without rework

The aerial and broadcast distribution sets Glasgow apart from the other sites in the programme. It is the clearest example of a building that carries live content as part of its normal operation.

    CHALLENGE

    The operating problem

Technology spotlight for a communal workplace environment within the national programme.

The site proved how shared spaces can support collaboration, informal presentation and consistent user experience.

The brief required one accountable partner across the infrastructure layer, not another set of isolated suppliers.

    APPROACH

    How Altus delivered

Altus translated the operating requirement into a coordinated specification across the relevant service pillars.

The delivery model protected day-to-day operations while giving the client a clearer standard to run after handover.

    OUTCOME

    What changed

The outcome is a practical proof point for the Altus Critical Systems model: one specification, one accountable team, and one support path.
