CHALLENGE

The operating problem

A fast-paced commercial workspace in Liverpool had a meeting room problem that will be familiar to most offices.

Rooms were double-booked or sat empty, and nobody had a reliable picture of which. Small rooms went unused because the setup in them was inconsistent, so people defaulted to the large ones for two-person calls.

  • Meeting rooms double-booked or empty, with no visibility of either
  • No view of availability across the office
  • Time lost finding a room and getting a meeting started
  • Small rooms underused because the experience in them was poor

The objective was to get more value from the space without increasing the footprint.

APPROACH

How Altus delivered

We installed a network of small, bookable meeting rooms and put an intelligent booking platform across them.

  • Multiple rooms for two to six people, sized for quick collaboration, private calls and hybrid meetings
  • A high-quality display in every room, with plug and play connectivity
  • An identical, intuitive setup in each room, so the experience does not change from room to room
  • A real-time booking interface showing availability, bookable from mobile or desktop and integrated with calendars
  • Usage data, so the space can be tuned over time rather than guessed at

The design took its cues from the city, drawing on the waterfront skyline and Liverpool’s commercial and media culture, so the workspace reads as belonging to where it is rather than as a generic office.

The practical effect is that a room stops being a passive space and becomes an actively managed asset. You walk in and start. No cables, no setup delay, the same experience every time.

OUTCOME

What changed

Smaller, well-managed rooms outperformed larger, unmanaged ones.

  • Meeting room utilisation increased
  • Booking conflicts were eliminated
  • Meetings start faster, because the technology stopped being the delay
  • A day-to-day improvement in employee experience

The footprint did not change. The way it was used did.
